A working afternoon

Jim Moran, Director, met us at the Museum this morning, and gave us a tour of the building and equipment, including a demonstration on the pantograph, the machine used to copy and mill the business part of wooden type. We admired the drawers of patterns, and the work of groups that had visited the museum before us. Afterwards, We broke for lunch-the clever and thrifty students to consume homemade (hotelroom-made?) sandwiches, my colleague and I to enjoy ho-made soup and meatloaf at Phil's Diner.

We spent the afternoon in the pressroom, each at our own press, working with type from the collection. (In the photos: Danielle, Maggie, Emily and Michelle mixing "paint" (Jim says they will be saying ink by tomorrow quitting-time.)
